A Fresh Start teeming with opportunity

Happy New Year!

A new year, a fresh start.  I don't do resolutions. I look at what worked, and what didn't. We are changing things up here, I hope it will bring a new fresh energy to our home, not cosmetic but rather being better stewards of our finances, paring down, spending less etc, living within our means, saving, and being more simple, paying off debt.

Bread is up today rising on the stovetop. Do  you all who make breads and pastries use a pastry cloth? Yes I know "some" would consider both of these things "old fashioned", there is nothing new under the sun it is said, and so rediscovering these little gems is new for somebody.

My husbands mother didn't bake bread, or noodles, just pies. She rolled her pies between two pieces of wax paper, and that is how I make them. When she died, we found a very expensive birch board which had pie measurements on one side, the other side was for noodles etc, it had a lip on it to keep it from falling off the table. It looked like she used it once, it was in a pillowcase in the closet. I brought it home and found it to be ok but not to my liking, carrying it around and storing it, and I only make one size pie as she did also. It went to Goodwill. Waste of good money.

I have given some thought to making my own noodles, which led me to a cloth of some kind, a sheet, an old tablecloth which I suppose work fine, and then I ran across this little beauty. I've used it for the first time today. This is way more how I prefer to "roll"..ha ha!

You can find more about this pastry cloth Here

Happy little spud, the last one in the potatoe bag, I didn't peel it, he is too happy.

  1. I do use a pastry cloth, and I bought it online with Oklahoma Pastry clothes. I also bought English muffin rings from that place too. I just saw someone selling one of those boards, and also thought it would a pain storing it. Here is where I bought my cloth. I also bought the girls one with recipes, pastry blenders, etc.

  3. I don't use a bread cloth, I can no longer knead bread dough since I broke my wrist so Harvey bought me a bread maker.

My mother-in-law always made her own noodles. I can remember her drying them on homemade racks.

    God bless.

  4. You are welcome. I use my cloth for anything pastry/bread etc. I used to have a machine to make my pasta, but have not in years. In fact, I think I got rid of the machine. Anyway, I have posted the link to my blog for the ginger pear pie. Enjoy!
