What you can do with left over bread, either homemade or store bought can save you money at the grocery store. Back in the day nothing was discarded you used up everything. Items were not always available in the depression, so you took care of what you had, used it wisely and used it up.
I make my own homemade bread as you know, often it is eaten and there are no leftovers. When I do have them we either use it to make french toast, or I use it to make stuffing, or breadcrumbs.
I'm going to make some bread especially for Thanksgiving to use as stuffing. Over the weekend I ground up the leftover bread which I dehydrated and made bread crumbs. I don't use alot of bread crumbs, and so this will last me a bit, I save the glass jars from the spaghetti sauces to store things in, I've got several stored with all kinds of different beans in the pantry.
Bread pudding is another lovely idea, but I have yet to make it.
What do you do with your leftover bread to save you money?

In the past have made homemade croutons for salads. I also made bread to make stuffing for the holidays. The boxed stuff in the stores has fructose corn syrup in it, as well as store bought stuffing in the bag.
I used to make Bread Pudding quite regularly but for the 2 of us it hardly pays. Bread crumbs are handy to have in the freezer. I'm sure we'll need them for the holidays
( stuffing), but I can't possibly use as much as I can make. GM
ooh I like bread pudding, I'm going to have to make some.
Well then I'm glad I'm doing this, a little late to the game but I suppose better late then never.
Like you I make bread crumbs and then I also make croutons. The croutons taste so much better.
God bless.
I don't understand the phrase "left-over bread" 😂 Actually when we have it, I keep bread in the freezer since we don't eat very much of it.
