When we went to Amish last week to stock up, I especially wanted to get bulk yeast, but we picked up more things to store away in the pantry. I do enjoy those bulk stores. Well, anyway they had a huge head of cabbage for $2.50, if that cabbage were here in the "hood" aka not a rural setting, my definition, that would have cost about $6.00.
So today I made 2 trays of stuffed cabbage to be consumed at a later date, perfect for those chilly winter days, which I am looking forward to. I've always preferred cooking winter foods as opposed to summertime foods. I just like the time of year the best.
So those are in the freezer. I do have some cabbage left over which I fry and we will have cabbage and noodles. My kitchen needs a tidy up, and then I'll sit a while.

Roadside in Amish Country, things are so much better in the country, look at these colors and textures, with the beautiful backdrop of the pines.

We just went to Amish to get supplies a few days ago. We found a local butcher, and we are trying two of the meats today. If we like them, we are going back to stock up for winter. The meats are non-gmo/no antibiotics, free range etc. Expensive, but healthier that what we can find in the store in our area.
A large head of cabbage for 2.50 was a good deal! I have a much smaller head that cost me as much. I made coleslaw and the rest will become cabbage soup
( Borsch). GM
