Our city property isn't big, it isn't even medium size. For where we live it is pretty average I guess. Different parts of city farther south have more land space. We have this tree, when we first moved in I could hug the tree, that 26 years ago. It is a tulip tree, which is a soft wood Poplar and I am told soft wood grows fast. We didn't plant the tree, we've thought about having it cut down $$$, of course in the fall tons of leaves, I don't know how tall it is, but it overshadows the house and you can see if from all around. In the spring it has tulip type flowers. and stitcky sap. I worry each and every time the wind blows hard, if it falls it will take out any number of houses in any direction and power lines.
We wanted to have it cut down, it needs a crane and a bucket truck, won't fit up our driveway, we are about 10' from the neighbors house on one side. We are farther from the other side neighbor, and they can only use her driveway. If the crane cracks the driveway...$$$$
Our neighbor informed us she is getting a new driveway, I wish I could have her old one...she spends $$$$ on useless updates which she will never recoup as she has outpriced herself in this neighborhood. Anyhoo...we talked with her and we are getting the "monster" taken down, before she has her driveway done. The cost of the removal is going to be added to our electric bill no interest, 3 years.
So in about 4 weeks, I can breath again and not worry about that tree falling on something or many somethings....
On a totally different front..
We are going to Amish this weekend, and will stay at a cabin we've stayed at before...There and back now..I posted this before we left. Had a lovely time in Amish. Not much mask wearing down south as up north in our state. They ask that you social distance, and leave the responsibility of the mask on/off to the actual people. No one way isles or doorways, just bring your common sense.

How fun. A bet the trip was nice. I hope to get a day trip in soon with my Mom. We are itching to get out of our area too. Tired of it all.
We have a pine that died during the winter, I guess. I am very worried about it, and like you, it is $$$ to have it taken down. I am so glad that your neighbor is agreeable to letting the crane use her driveway before she has it replaced! And glad you had a nice cabin stay away from the city. A chance to refresh can make all the difference in life!
We are not hotel people, the cabins book up quickly. Check with your local electric company, see if they have a program about cutting trees down, they would like to prevent line damage, maybe they have something similar.
A few years ago we had a large old cherry tree removed so I know just how much these kind of things cost. You'll be so relieved to have your potentially dangerous tree gone.
Your little trip to Amish country sounds like a dream. Sp nice that you could get away.
