Happy 1st day of Spring

Here where I live it is the 1st day of spring, I suppose for some of you it is the 1st day of Fall/Autumn, my other favorite time of year, each has it's own unique beauty.

I've fed the birds this morning, they are going through food every day, soon they will have plenty of goodies to munch on in nature. We get mostly sparrowns, some American Finches, an ocassional blue jay couple, and cardinals. A robin or two comes to the yard looking for food, the ground isn't frozen.

A wee update on my garden, I planted seeds back in January, they are doing well, I did add some Hungarian Heart tomatoes recently which have sprouted now. The only two things which did not produce were the Hungarian Hot peppers, which I now have in a damp paper towel hanging in the window inside a plastic ziplock bag, they almost look like they "want" to sprout? And the Hollyhocks, oh and the sunflower...I guess I try those directly into the soil, when it is time.

Other than that they are growing at a fine pace, I don't use grow lights, or heating mats, so by the time my planting time arrives at the end of May they will I hope be just right.

I've got mini pumpkins, butternut squash morning glories and tomaoes 2 varieties, both heirloom

Cherokee Purple and Hungarian Hearts.

I'm forcing myself to wait with sowing seeds indoors because I find they get so tall and lanky by the time I can put them in the ground. I always seem to rush it. I'm going to buy my tomato plants early so as to get the kinds I want but those I'll keep in the windows of the enclosed porch.

You are going to have a fine garden! Smart thinking to get the plants to grow slowly so they are ready at the correct time.

Because I don't use lamps or heat mats, and it's dark, cloudy in the early months, they grow slowly, but they grow..so far, they will be ok I think, we are getting more sunshine now.

Some of the flower seeds I'll sow directly. I enjoy watching the seeds poke up through the soil, it gives me great joy.

I guess mine are kind of lanky, but that will even out when I plant them. Limited bright light, but we are getting more sun now. It will work out fine. Flower seeds I'll sew directly.
