Last fall it was my intention to just plant garlic, which I did. It is coming up beautifully. I'll repeat that again in the fall. I already had in there 1 lavender plant, mojito mint, a miniature rose plant which I never expected would come back, but garlic loves roses or visa versa.Oh, and Lemon Balm. Now while lemon balm is a very pretty plant, I am unimpressed with it's scent. I think I much prefer Lemon Verbena, although I don't think it will overwinter, we are zone 6. I have one it is kept inside.
I kept adding things to the wee garden, and it's probably too much, I tucked in onions 4 of them in the corners, will plant more in the fall. A Rosemary, chamomile, and 3 tomatoe plants...and scattered some seeds about for Calendula. Everything is small now.
It may be a tad bit crowded....although when I pull the 4 garlic plants up that will help some.
I mentioned that Roses love garlic, I have a book by that title.
Here is the information on it, it's about companion planting. I should dust it off and read it.😉
I purchased it because I love roses & garlic, the title intrigued me.
Peace

I love the idea of companion gardening I have read about some interesting combinations. We have already tried marigolds with some of our veg it does seem to work.
I've either read Louise Riotte's book or maybe it was an article in a magazine. I must admit I don't pay much attention to companion planting. My style is more planting things very random.
I grew Lemon Verbena one year but although we're zone 7 it didn't make it through winter. It may have been because of our very wet winters.
Lemon Balm grows everywhere in my back yard. I tried making tea with it once but was not impressed. What do you use yours for?
I think that book was one of the forerunners of companion planting! I find it works very well and looks prettier too.
Leigh I think you are correct. I've seen pictures of the earlier copies. This is a lovely copy. The title caught my eye for I love roses & garlic, and to my surprise they love each other.
I bought the book because I was curious about roses & garlic since I love them both. I don't take the companion gardening to the extreme, as I have a small space. I planted the lemon balm because it was one of the ingredients to make Queen of Hungary. It's a pretty plant, but not alot of lemon in it for me. Has many healing properties, but I prefer Lemon Verbena for the lemony fragrance.
Your little square garden will be so pretty and full. I planted a lemon balm plant once and now it grows everywhere. This has a very lemony scent...very strong!
I put them in October, we'll be harvesting soon, they are getting scapes..I hope you get to see the pink lavender...I hope it grows, me and seeds are a 50/50 deal.
