Yarn Candy Wind it up!

Look what arrived today!
The man in the brown truck, brings goodies......

I'll start out by saying that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, and have used for years Caron Simply Soft yarn. I would say that this is my GOTO yarn. I make prayer shawls for the church, and have made some garments for myself, so soft for those of us who are tactile. They have a lovely sheen almost shimmery and drape well.

Berry Blue, Lavender Blue,Victorian Rose

I mentioned that I have also used Yarn Bee Secret Soft (on occasion) Hobby Lobby, as they are not close to me, and I don't pay shipping, that is a trip I make about 1 time a year. I purchase my yarn locally, and will always choose Caron Simply Soft. But if you use the Hobby Lobby brand, it is comprable to Simply Soft by Caron, slightly more expensive. Caron Simply soft does go on sale several times through the year, and with a coupon you could do well also.

I suppose we all have our favorite yarns , and of course depending on what you are creating, the type of yarn may make a difference in the finished product. For example if you are making an afghan, the Caron 1lb would be better for that then the simple soft, as it is what I think is a more sturdy yarn.

The reason that I'm telling you this is because I had a problem with the yarn I purchased. I'm one of "those people" who will wind the yarn skein into a ball BEFORE I get the hook involved. Have you ever....begun a project only to find a huge mess knot tangled jumbled up, cut and run is your only alternative. Happened only once, and never again...so I wind the ball. It's rather therapuetic, slows you down, and helps you prepare for your project...it's one of those simple pleasures.

So, I had purchased 2 skeins of Caron Simply Soft, one winded up like a dream, like most of them do, and the other not so much. It was a mess from the get go.  I'll meet the yarn halfway, and will work it to get the tangle out, usually this is something I can work out with patience and time, like I said this will slow me down, and it is a tranquil process....until.....it isn't. This was the case here, this time.

Remember doing this ?
After quite a while, and still no hook moving....I threw it away. I took a picture of the mess and contacted the Caron Company and within a day or so received a message that they will be giving me a code to get some more yarn online. The first code didn't work, I contacted them again, and they provided me with a new code, by then the yarn had gone on sale, and I was able to get more. Only paying for shipping and handling, it averaged out to be about 1.00 per skein.

Thank you for this information. I like a softer yarn for the baby blankets I crochet. I only have Wal Mart as a yarn source and the choice is very limited. I've been using Bernat Baby Softee, but it splits so badly I sometimes feel like I'm "taking one step forward and two steps backward". Years ago I used Red Heart baby yarn but can't find it now. Winding the yarn before starting a project sounds like a good idea; no longer can one pull the yarn from the middle of the skein so I put the skein inside my clothes basket to work it off from the outside of the skein. I guess I will resort to ordering yarn online.
