Thinking garden, as we all do at this time of year.
Perennials....The Lavender in my garden thrives even in clay soil. I harvest the seeds...
what do I do with them all?
Lemon Verbena.... my go to lovely, fresh. Would love to over winter it, dehydrate the leaves makes a lovely lemon scent for baking.
Scented Geraniums...another favorite they come in many different scents, my favorite is the Lemon Rose, these I cannot find locally and usually order from a greenhouse. I would love to find a way to use these leaves as well. The flowers are small, but the leaves oh my they smell good.
Mojito Mint. this is an invasive little plant, I've pulled and keeps growing. We use it to make Mojito's on the hot summer days of July. I've not really found a culinary use for it.
A vintage beauty in the garden, climbing red rose. |

I've never heard of Mojito mint but it sounds good.
Could you make potpourri from the scented leaves that can not be used for culinary purposes? Or is there a way to use your verbena in a salve or lotion? As far as the mint, we just use regular spearmint when we make mojitos, that way I can use them to make jelly or dry for tea... Mind you any mint is really invasive.
God bless.
Our pleasant weather had me checking out what seeds I have and planning what I need to find. I saw Walmart had a huge display of seeds out already. I like scented Geraniums and usually get one at the nursery.
Hello! Just happened upon your blog... what a lovely place! I am looking forward to spring as well, and I have mint planted in a pot, otherwise I've found it becomes invasive, much as I love it! I love geraniums too, their bright blooms are so stunning! Many blessings to you :)
Welcome Marilyn, thank you for your comments.
yes it is, I've pulled and it keeps coming up and I have some in a pot. It is a nice green plant and looks pretty so it is not a total loss.
It doesn't smell like mint to me, it has a more savory scent, but makes good Mojito's.
