Tinctures & Salves

This post is not about crochet? Whaaat?

Never the less, I will sneak something into the mix. A lovely little vintage style potholder... I went through a time where I made quite a bit of these, and can be tempted to do it again.

They are so darling!

Such an interest in the tinctures and salves, and from comments others also are using what they are growing in their gardens.Herbs are so really lovely, they are a gift which keeps giving.

With all the information about this all over the place, could it be a case of TMI?

I don't know about you, but I am ever confused on what to do.

I'd really like just one really good source. Some use alcohol, some use oils..While some dehydrate, some use fresh herbs.

I have a huge honeysuckle bush in my backyard, it is full of flowers. I saw a video where Honeysuckle Tincture was made. I didn't know but Honeysuckle is widely used for its medicinal purposes.

Can tinctures be both alcohol and oil? What makes it a tincture?

With the Honeysuckle, I would like to make a tincture, and also make a salve. I the video the leaves as well as the flowers of the Honeysuckle are used to make the tincture, and vodka,

I went out this morning and gave the Chives a haircut, there wasn't alot and so I chopped them up and added them to sour cream. We are having tacos for supper. A little added something something in the source cream. I don't use chives alot even though I dehydrated some last year, I think I prefer them fresh.

I snipped a wee bit of the basil, and since the dehydrator was out I have those in there now. I am very low now on basil, from what I grew last year 1 plant lasted me through the winter, and I made pesto.  I didn't grow the basil from seed, they sell Basil plants at the local grocery store, sometimes they have mint and cilantro as well. I always buy the Basil and plant it outside it does just fine.

86 again today.

I have a big clump of chives that I hardly ever use. Right now I have green onions in my tiny raised bed and those I use. We're having 'new' potatoes for supper and I went out to snip some lovely dill to mix with sour cream and a touch of mayo. I say 'new' because they're just the tiny potatoes one can buy in the grocery store. I doubt they're very new.
That sweet little dress/pot holder especially in that shade of green is quite adorable. GM

A tincture is made with vodka or brandy, and taken internally as a medicinal. For example, a sage tincture is good for sore throat, or canker sores. A mullein tincture can be taken for respiratory issues, to rid throat of mucus, and more. If you infuse an oil, it is then used to make other things. For example, I infuse an oil with herbs, that I then make lip balm with, or a salve. I infuse lemon balm with a good oil to make my lemon balm lip balm. I infuse herbs in oil then make a face lotion cream. There are lots of books at the library you can borrow to get recipes too, like Rosemary Gladstar.
