The extra moments of daylight

Beeswax Rosettes

There is something to be said about the shortening of the days. By the time we arrive at fall and early winter, I've had enough of the noise which living in the city provides. It's like we all get tucked in for a long winters nap. This year felt a little different, and the cold and early darkness didn't have the same appeal. We are gaining light or lengthening of the days now, and I find myself rather enjoying it being light at 5:00 pm.

I'm hearing this morning some bird chatter, which always makes me feel better, as in the winter they are not so chatty and it is quiet.

Thinking gardening these days too. The sweet potatoe slips I started in water have rooted and it is promising for the garden. The garlic I planted in the fall has poked out of the soil, mainly because we had such mild and very warm temperatures, and then the artic blast.

I kept a geranium alive from the summer, and one I have taken to the basement to be dormant for a while, and see if it will come back. Once the Christmas tree is down, I'll be bringing it up. Last year it was blooming down there with very minimal light.

I've planted some Hyacinths back in fall, three out of the four have come up, and I can see some buds. These I think are one of my favorite spring flowers. Repotting the houseplants are on the agenda in the coming months.

I've finished up the crochet hearts, and am working on another cottage for St. Patricks Day. Considering colors for an afghan I'm going to make for my son. The last one I made him he was young & smaller, as he approaches his 21st birthday, he is considerably taller all 6'1, so the little afghans are a wee bit short.

Some are pink, some white, and I used Caron Party yarn, which has lovely sparkles, like the one in the header of my blog. I crocheted even smaller hearts with thread and centered them on the heart. Before I send them off I'll take a picture of the lot of them.

I am actually seeing a bit of the lengthening of days, which is wonderful. Still winter here and lots of snow on the ground.

Love your crocheted hearts.

God bless.
