You never know what will be a topic friendly when you post.
Recently, I mused about my now antique crockpot, and it would seem from the comments that it is still pretty much in use around the blogosphere, and folks have a fondness for theirs, and some have picked up theirs at thrift shops. I've decided to keep mine. I was on the fence about taking it to Goodwill, that should have been my 1st clue that I wanted to keep it, that little voice.
I brought it up from abyss ( the basement) where things get banished only to be packed up and taken to Goodwill. It's back up to the kitchen, if fact, I've got some Chili in it now for supper. And since I made the Goodwill run, some space in the cupboard, perfect for my old Antique.
And then, maybe I'll use it from time to time. It has a lid. The instant pot didn't come with a lid for slow cooking or making soups. And I still have the slow cooker, which I use for other things which also has a clear lid, and a case for transporting. They do the same things, but in different ways, and each has a place in my kitchen & yours also.

My slow cooker has been tucked away in the cupboard for a while now. I keep thinking about getting rid of it in order to free up some space but it still has it's uses from time to time. X
ReplyDeleteI fixed that, when I cleaned up the pot and pan cupboard which was full of pans mil gave us we don't use. Off to goodwill. I'm glad I kept the antique crockpot.

Really, we do love our Crock Pot. Have 2 sizes. Tiny and big enough. -smile-
We do not have the new Instapot. So we are different on that score. And I know, people love theirs.
We weigh how much we really need, a new thing.
We would not use a new Instapot. So we didn't get one.

I waited a while and made sure this was not a fad purchase. It helps out when I have a full day, and I can prssure cook the meat tender in 1/2 the time. I'm glad I kept the antique slow cooker. :)
DeleteI love mine for traveling and for hosting or get togethers. I much prefer taking a crock pot to taking a dish that requires a person to heat up their oven (which is usually full anyway. I love to use mine for busy days outdoors. Easy clean up too.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a Crock Pot so I can't weigh in to this discussion. I had a pressure cooker a long time ago but that's been gone to the thrift store too.
ReplyDeleteI really don't use my slow cooker as much as I used to. Then again I don't use my InstantPot or Air fryer as much as I should either.

ReplyDeleteI've been using the same crockpot for probably more than 20 years. Last year, my mother-in-law gave me a new one she had used only once because she didn't like the huge size. It's about double what I was using. I haven't gotten rid of the old one, and I don't know if I want to, but I used the new one on Friday to make chili for the annual Super Bowl chili cook-off at work, and it was awesome to be able to bring home a little bit of leftovers! Hard to carry on the train when full, but boy was it delicious! I didn't win... but the judges said mine was the hottest. Thanks to three tiny slices of a ghost pepper and a whole Serrano pepper I grew right in my indoor garden!
ReplyDeleteMy 88 year old dad used to use his to cook his dinner while he was at the bridge club. He would always tell me about his homemade meals. He was proud of being self sufficient.
