They don't make things like they used to.

Planned Obselesence
They make think purposely so that you will have to purchase another one. The first washer we had lasted about19 years, pretty good. We bought it, the dryer, stove and refridgerator all new when we moved in there ( the dishwasher also). Everything has been replaced more than one time.
The refrigerator lasted about 22 years, the stove about 20, the dryer about 17 or so.
The dishwasher I'm on the 3rd one.
I've purchased all name brand products. This time it a Maytag washer....we'll see.
We are on our 3rd d/w, it works, but backs up, and leaks. Don't use it. The stove #2 gets piping hot on the outside, inside temperature not accurate, 3 washing machines and 2 dryers within 24 years.
My inlaws have a old and I mean old fridge in their basement, still works, still keeps cold, and frozen things frozen. Back in the day, things were meant to last a while.
We are all caught up on the laundry. Thankfully so.
Having BBQ chicken, and corn in the husk for supper.
Fresh Corn-Love it, this time of year is filled with bounty isn't it?

Look at this huge swing! It reminds me of Edith Ann on Laugh In, from waaaaaay back in the day. She was a little girl who sat in a big chair/rocker. This is at the farmers market.
Well, I must set about my day, hmm....maybe I should get dressed? My hair is up. that's a start.
Corn is soaking.

Have a good, simple joy filled day.

  1. I feel your pain! Planned obsolescence makes me upset too. It's why our earth is becoming covered with trash. Even when something is fixable, it's often cheaper just to buy a new one. We're on our third dishwasher in 12 years, and we buy nice ones. Ugh. On the bright side, our washer/dryer, fridge, and freezer are still going strong for now!

  2. You are so right when you say "They don't make things like they used to." We definitely are living in a disposable society which is way bad in so many ways. I thought I left a comment on your gentle rain post, but... I'll just say again how much I love been a Rose "bud." :~)

  4. I agree with you about the newer appliances not made to last. I'm hoping our old things last many more years. Like you say, old appliances were built to last a lot longer than the ones available now.
We did buy a new washer this summer but the previous one was not that old. To be fair, a lot of laundry gets done in this 3 generation household. I no longer have a dish washer. We had two and neither one did a good job.
I hope you had a good day.

  5. I thank you all for stopping over. Keep pluggin along I suppose. It could be worse, I might have a washboard, a creek and a rock!. Not the part of pioneer life which interestes me in the least. :) I do so much appreciate all of your comments on my most mundane irksome topics. To that we all have in common. Life happens all the time doesn't it?
